Sian & Yoga

A little about life before yoga! I was born and brought up in Hong Kong until I came to the UK in my teens. After school, I travelled a bit, living in Nice, Tokyo, Honolulu (I know!) and Equatorial Guinea. I then began working in London for The Economist newspaper for 7 years and went to evening classes at Birkbeck University to complete a degree in Politics, Philosophy and History. I have always loved sport and movement. It was during my time working in an office that I discovered yoga at my local gym. My teacher was instrumental in opening this world up to me.
I’ve been practising yoga now for 25 years and have been qualified to teach yoga for 18 years so I have bags of experience teaching people of all ages and persuasions! I trained in Austria, Thailand and London and now work with people on a 1:1 basis or in classes. I’ve also taught people from a wide range of companies - from the BBC, West Ham Football Club to St Barts Hospital.
My yoga journey has been largely influenced by Sivananda, Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga, the latter being my daily practice. I have spent the last 18 years practising and learning from my teachers, Hamish Hendry at Astanga Yoga London and Joey Miles at Ashtanga Yoga Leeds.
I am qualified to teach kids’ yoga (YogaBugs) and also saw the enormous benefits yoga had whilst I was pregnant.
I’m half Japanese, half British and married with two school age boys.
Ashtanga Yoga
I love this style of yoga. I love its structure and grace and creating shapes with my body which demand both mental as well as physical strength. Ashtanga continually challenges and stretches me and sometimes has me totally defeated, which I like. There is always something more to learn or achieve.
What I love about teaching is seeing how people improve over time through continual practice. I enjoy encouraging people to challenge themselves and try and work on poses they thought they would never be able to do. I like to think I can help them along the way.
Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. Whether you are a complete novice, very experienced or just curious, you are very welcome to come along and try one of my classes.
Group Classes
These all take place at Dunsden Village hall, just 10 minutes from Henley. The hall has underfloor heating which makes final relaxation that much more enjoyable and a beautiful vaulted ceiling. It is a lovely quiet place overlooking a small garden with plenty of parking.

Private Classes
If you can't get to class, have specific requirements or prefer a class in the privacy of your own home or Zoom, private sessions are really beneficial. I have helped many clients rehabilitate after an injury or operation, get back into practice after pregnancy or simply keep up a weekly regime of fitness/strength/managing life!
